Abstract

By providing facilitated access to heritage sites, with all guidebooks, the tourist industry takes something important away from our monuments. This “something” is so subtle that the very fact of taking away escapes from the traveler’s consciousness. This text by EHU Associate Professor Viktar Martsinovich, written in the mode of a travel diary, describes a study tour to Greece of EHU students and professors in May 2022 – a trip in which we set out to find our own Greece and to communicate with its ruins. Our conclusions about building relationships with ancient monuments may be useful for both future travelers and for thinking about strategies for dealing with any ruins.
