Abstract

An interview with Prof. Dr. Jacek Purchla, a founder and for 27 years Director of International Cultural Centre in Krakow highlights some key issues of heritage related agenda in modern Europe. Prof. Purchla shares his memories about the 41st World Heritage Committee Session in Krakow which he was conducting as a Chair of Polish UNESCO Commission. He also speaks about the social, economic, cultural, and environmental potential of cultural heritage as well as the danger of its overpoliticization. The talk was conducted by EHU Dr. Stsiapan Stureika.

Historian, cultural anthropologist, associate professor at the European Humanities University and chairman of the board of the Belarusian Committee of ICOMOS (International Council on Monuments and Sites). Works on the theory of cultural heritage, new museology, and the development of heritage communities. Author of three monographs and about 40 academic articles.
