Development of Belarusian Culture Abroad: the Case of CreateCulture Space
Abstract
The author discusses the importance of protecting cultural rights in democratic countries, where cultures of different ethnic groups can develop and express their identity. In Belarus, after the 2020 protests, many representatives of the modern independent culture faced restrictions, which led to migration to neighboring countries. Vilnius became a refuge for Belarusians, who created a new diaspora with a clear identity. Here, organizations emerged that support cultural activities and participation in local life, although many of them do not prioritize cultural support. An important role in this process is played by the CreateCulture Space, which offers Belarusians in Vilnius a place for creativity and the development of cultural and social initiatives.
