Abstract

Thomas Venclova’s book Vilnius. A City in Europe highlights Vilnius as a multicultural city where Belarusians have the right to cultural heritage alongside other ethnic groups. Historian Lymanas Briedis also confirms the multiple identities of Vilnius, including the Belarusian one. After 2020, when Vilnius became a refuge for Belarusians, active discussions emerged in society about whether Belarusians can consider the city their own. The issue of the right of Belarusians to cultural heritage in Vilnius requires careful consideration, taking into account political, cultural, and humanitarian aspects.
